well you guys, art fair is nearly upon us! and we are all but ready. the photo above doesn’t even include teri’s stuff…so much for being short on inventory (booth is 4×8′!). after returning back to my sewing room and getting my bearings about me a few weeks ago, i blazed through the several remaining projects i had cut. fortunately, my mom had an extended visit with us, so i was able to move very quickly in spite of a wave of fevers and malaise moving through our family and reese developing severe insomnia (not in that order). it was basically intolerable for two weeks, but seems to have mostly resolved by sticking the kids in the same room at night. now there’s literally nothing they don’t do together. anyway, i initially thought i would regroup and do more sewing (boy pants? more home decor or accessories? more jersey?), but i took about a week’s break or so to attend to the business side of selling crafts. turns out, that’s quite a task if you’re starting from scratch! after a fair amount of research, filing, registering, establishing, and branding, i’m happy to say i am legally open for business. i can even take credit cards! i told you guys i’d have more adult sewing in store, but i had to keep mum on exactly what until today…very excited to give you an exclusive sneak preview of april rhodes‘ new pattern(s), the date night dress (left) and simple slip (right)! awkward photo shoots are part and parcel of self-sewing, but i must admit it’s still bizarre for me to see so many pictures of my body from so many angles…please be gentle (and if you want to comment on my apparently mom-buff arm, i won’t hold it against you).
roughly 20 years ago when i finished my sorbetto top, i immediately downloaded this pattern and sewed it the next day. i wrote this post maybe a week later, and it has taken me THIS LONG to photograph it. it’s ancient history now. seriously, it took this long for another adult to be present to wield the camera and my hair to be clean at the same time, to give you an idea of an average day around here. frankly, i was just happy to get some photos of the dress on a body, so please bear with me through the awkward poses. maybe when the kids are in college i’ll be able to get some pics when it’s not 150 degrees with sun directly in my eyes so i don’t have to crop my crazy squinty face out of every photo. i just spelled miscellaneous correctly on the first try. it’s going to be a good day. anyhow, i realize it’s christmas eve and there are a multitude of other things i could be doing as there’s no urgency to blog. however, i have a little window (many visitors=many babysitters) where i can toss up a quick one about some of the things keeping us busy this december and the great tutorials/patterns to go along with them.
