hi everyone! gah, i have so many posts i want to write and really just haven’t figured out a good organizational method yet of how to get to them…i want to talk about my knitting background and some of my earliest projects as well as all the things i’m working on now. but, things keep coming up that also seem worthy of some thought and conversation that interrupt those plans. i think the answer is probably writing more often, which is always a goal of mine anyway, so maybe i could begin by carving out protected time each few days to do so. sounds like a good new year’s resolution.
look! i made another quilt. this is a custom order for a coworker of david’s. she’s hosting a baby shower for her best friend and *this* is the gift of honor. how cool! she gave me a head’s up she’d be in the market for a quilt months ago, sent me pictures for ideas, and more or less gave me free reign to do what i wanted. a perfect client! are you guys getting sick of this? i promise there is an end in sight and there will be winners. two more stacks after this and we’re done! these are great fabrics–i kind of can’t believe i’m giving them away, but i’m in purge mode and i can’t stop. they are all quilting weight, but art gallery fabrics are the one exception i will make in my no quilting cotton for garments policy. it has a notably nicer hand (as they say in the industry) than other brands.
up for grabs is two colorways of boucherouite (i’m not even checking if i spelled that right), about 1.5 yds of the blue/grey (as seen in my washi) and about 3/4 yd of the pink. also that awesome prism-y print, about 3/4 yd, that i used as contrast in these shorts that my shorts-hating daughter never wore once. who wants?
happy belated new year! so many times in the past months i have wanted to write a nice recap post of all the notable things going on around here…there was the first birthday of this blog in october, the end of art fair, the new year. i actually have an entire post all written for my bloggiversary that never saw the light of day–i have just been swamped with hands on projects, and blogging hasn’t been a huge priority. indeed, over the past year, this blog has been both what inspires me and holds me accountable. however, one thing is certain–i would never be here today, or have accomplished what i have in the past year if not for this space to share projects, process and write. this is more of an announcement than a post, and for those of you following on instagram or facebook, this is old news! however, i wanted to take a moment to make an official announcement to the rest of you, and as an archive of this monstrous endeavor. i have officially opened an etsy shop! yeah! come see it! my friends, what a fine month it was. countertops cleared after one year of accumulating piles, cars cleaned and serviced, blades sharpened, walls painted, wardrobe multiplied, books read, faraway destinations traveled, old friends visited, new friends made. a little business, a *lot* of pleasure. a month long vacation is luxurious by any standard…i really vacillated over whether or not to write a roundup post at all because it makes me self conscious. but, i really made it count, you guys…i don’t think a moment was wasted. and i want you to know there was no sloth to be had. the immediate and self-perceived dire needs of toddlers quickly erase any memory of relaxation, so join me in a walk down memory lane as i recall what it was like to have a month to do WHATEVER I WANTED. if i were just about any other blogger, this post would go something like this:
hey everyone! are you ready to get fired up for some summer sewing?! in just one week, the first ever kids clothes week, summer edition, will be underway. you all know how i love me some kcw, so i hope you’ll join me in what’s sure to be a fun week full of late night sewing disasters/triumphs and bribery induced kid photo shoots. i’m over at the kcw blog today to talk all about shorts, so head on over to check it out. make sure you keep visiting over there throughout this kickoff week for all kinds of summer wardrobe inspiration. while you’re there, grab a button, and sign up to sew along! now is the start of many new adventures. only hours ago, i left my two precious tots in the capable hands of my mother, who must be half saint, half crazy to willingly volunteer to assume their care for an entire month. i know. and while i already have an ache in my heart created by their absence at every turn, i have many plans. given my exceptionally rigid schedule of blogging throughout kcw, i’m surprised it took me this long to write a wrap up post! however, i had to sit for a few days and figure out what i really wanted the post to cover, because this was a big week in many ways. obviously, we should address this:
i have lost track of how much time has elapsed since my previous post, because with the final additions to my stash after weeks of fabric purchasing, pattern purchasing, sketching, sketching, pinning, pinning…it’s time. tomorrow begins kids clothes week spring 2013, the largest (to my knowledge) kid sewalong around. david has been adequately forewarned of my plans to shirk both household responsibilities and general social interaction for the next seven days.
